Death

Thomas Farrell witnessed the death of Edmund Farrell on 16 March 1869. According to Harvey Barnett's memoirs, "three of the Farrell brothers [Timothy, Edmund and Tom - JMF] were riding together when they were overtaken by a thunderstorm and the one in the middle was struck dead while the others were untouched. In those days men's hats had a piece of steel wire round the edge of the rim and it was generallyt believed that this wire had become exposed and attracted the lightning."1,2
