Henry ("John") Herring, alias Heron alias O'Heron alias Fish, was sentenced to one month imprisonment for illegally using a horse at Rockley on 2 August 1877 in Bathurst. He was arrested on 1 August and released on 31 August4 He was accused of stealing a horse from Edward Carfield on 17 July 1878 in Campbells River. He was described as 23 years old, 5' 5", slight build, dark complexion5 He was arrested on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences on 19 October 1878 in Bathurst. He was committed for trial at Orange Quarter Sessions on 3 Dec 1878 and sent to Orange Gaol on 29 November6,7 He was found guilty of false pretences and sentenced to 12 months hard labour in Orange Gaol on 3 December 1878 in Orange.8
