Involvement in crime
Patrick J Foran was allegedly involved in the armed hold up and robbery of 12 travellers on 31 January 1867 in Bathurst. The four robbers ambushed the travellers on the Carcoar Road about 25 miles from Bathurst. They stole money, firearms and two horses. They then went to a public house and stole 30 ounces of gold from the proprietor.
1 He was arrested for the Carcoar Road robbery on 11 February 1867.
1 He was convicted of the Carcoar Road robbery on 17 April 1867 in Bathurst. They were both sentenced to serve ten years hard labour on the roads.
1 He was unsuccessful in his attempted escape from custody while en route to Berrima Gaol on 30 April 1867. A police constable died from wounds received in the escape and several of the other prisoners were wounded.
1 He was released from gaol after vserving about seven years of his ten-year sentence in 1874.
Death
Patrick J Foran died on 16 March 1888 at age ~54 in Fish River.
