James Murphy was born Keelnabrack, Kerry, Ireland in November 1843 and died in the Rookwood Asylum at Granville NSW in November 1919. He married firstly Ann Malcolm at the Church of Saint Michael and Saint John in Bathurst on 28 December 1864 but they separated before 1870 and were divorced in November 1878. He married secondly the recently-widowed Prudence Whye nee Reed at Gongolgon on 18 May 1879. He is buried in Rookwood Catholic Cemetery at Rookwood NSW.
