- In 1865 Joseph Maxwell, Junior, was a stockman at Bonnawanna Station opposite Beemery Station in Bourke.6

- In 1870 Joseph Maxwell, Junior, was a butcher in Bourke. He was in partnership with WW Davis.6
- On 28 October 1871 Joseph Maxwell, Junior, was a publican at the Commercial Hotel in Bourke.8,6
- In 1872 Joseph Maxwell, Junior, was an innkeeper at Mitchell Street in Bourke. This would have ben a continuation of his employment at WW Davis' Commercial Hotel (the Old Royal).9
